Priorities

As I’ve served my neighbors on the Lake County Board these past four years, I have fought to improve our quality of life. I am running for one final term to make sure that Lake County remains the best place to live, work, and raise a family.

As your Lake County Board Member, my number one priority has been to fight for more transparent and accountable government. I have been a lifelong champion for transparency, because I know that our elected officials are elected to serve you and they must be accountable to the public they serve.

In light of recent news, our current focus is on reforming procurement card (“P-Card”) use by county board members and employees. I believe we should eliminate P-Cards for county board members. I am working to strengthen the rules for P-Cards and expense accounts for county employees. I am also advocating for more stringent oversight of all county expenditures, and I want to see all county expenditures proactively posted on the county website so the public can see how their tax dollars are being spent without having to FOIA county records.

I am leading by example. In my four years on the Lake County Board, I have never requested or spent any money on a P-Card.

As a leader on transportation issues my entire career, I am also working to improve our transportation infrastructure so our residents are able to get to where they need to go quickly and safely. This also reduces traffic congestion, improves emergency response time, and reduces harmful emissions.

I am working to complete local road construction projects that have been long talked about, such as the reconstruction and widening of Deerfield Road, Buffalo Grove Road, Lake Cook Road, Weiland Road, and Aptakisic Road, as well as the completion of Old McHenry Road. I am working with Metra to add weekend service to our Metra line. I am also working to finally complete the Route 53 extension into Lake County.

Finally, I have been a strong voice for fiscal responsibility in Lake County. I actively support efforts to make Lake County government more efficient with the public’s tax dollars, making sure that the county continues to deliver balanced budgets and innovative services. My goal is to make sure we at the county are respecting taxpayer dollars and doing our part in keeping your tax bill at the lowest possible level. As a result of our careful fiscal stewardship, Lake County is one of a small number of counties in the country that boasts a AAA bond rating, the highest possible credit rating.

Another important fiscal priority is supporting economic development and job creation in Lake County. We need to retain our current businesses, help our businesses expand, and attract new businesses to the county. This will make sure our residents have access to good-paying jobs and opportunities, and it will bring in more revenue to county government through growth rather than new taxes.

These are my priorities as I serve you on the Lake County Board. I hope you’ll vote for me for one final term so we can continue to work together to make sure that Lake County remains the best place to live, work, and raise a family.
